Faculty and Preceptors
Appropriate supervision is vital to patient safety and adequate training. Medical personnel who help train residents are called “preceptors”. Preceptors and faculty members are dedicated clinicians with teaching experience recruited from inside and outside of the UFH system. Supervising preceptors have minimal direct patient care duties during trainee supervision.
Preceptors who are involved with the design and daily training program issues are also called “faculty.” Faculty may be preceptors but not all preceptors are faculty. Preceptors are selected for knowledge in their fields, understanding of family medicine principles, willingness to teach, and teaching ability.
